| I didn't attend the memorial service for Patty Suhay yesterday, because ironically, I was working on the local Relay for Life event put on by the American Cancer Society, providing sound for the various bands that performed at the fundraiser (including my own) in-between talks by cancer survivors and family members of victims. The event culminated in a twilight memorial with names of hundreds of friends and family members who had faced cancer, with their names on a candlelit luminaria bag, each placed a foot apart and ringing the football field where it was held. I made a donation in Patty's name and the candle in each bag was supported by a can of food for the local food bank. The little saying at the top of her bag said "Friends are flowers in the garden of life." |
