It is a unique and peculiar upbringing. I remember as a kid going to, occasionally, "civilian" schools, and the teachers would say how sorry they felt for me, having to move every two years. I didn't feel that way at all. I remember thinking that I couldn't imagine living somewhere for my "whole life." Now I have raised my children in the same place (Portland), and it seems good. (They of course have raced off to hither and yon as soon as they could...remnants of my upbringing, I guess.)
