Comment History | One of the most important -- and to me, obvious -- things you said is that you are just like a man. I just don't understand when these men get up on their pulpits and start talking about me as though I am somehow different than they are because I have a vagina. I have hopes and worries and can fix a carburetor and hike ... you guys, we are basically just like you. Let's just say, we are all on the same bell curve. Some men are more "feminine" than me; some women are more "masculine" than you. Where do you guys get this notion that there is something SO ALIEN about women? |
 | this is a subject i am passionate about! obviously. :-) When i returned to america from italy, i did not have the words, prejudice and discrimination in my vocabulary. i had no idea what they meant. i found out the first day at texas a&m university that women are still considered 2nd class citizens, at least in tx they were and are. stay in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant and woe unto you if you voiced an opinion. needless to say i did not fit in well. :-) there is a planned parenthood office not far from where i used to live. every sunday morning someone from the "other side" dressed up as the grim reaper and paraded up and down the sidewalk in front of planned parenthood. had to explain a few things to my son about treatment of womem and all humans. there is a church on every corner preaching hellfire and damnation should a woman deviate from her assumed role in society. the only thing i can do men cannot is have babies. other than that, i am no different than a man. i have opinions, thoughts and feelings just like a man does. i am more verbal about those at times. no woman should ever be forced to carry to term just because our government says she has to. we are a free people, choices are part of our essence of being human. before we are categorized as being women and men, we are all humans first. we truly have to walk in someone elses' shoes before we make any kind of judgement.....actually less judgement of our fellow human beings probably would be best. :-) i have the right to the pursuit of happiness as does every other human. labeling me as female is pointless. our children that we choose to have must be carefully tended to so that they will become productive members of society. how we raise our kids is up to the parents. we only know what we have been taught ourselves as we grew up. no instruction manual came with my son when he arrived. :-) did i do things differently? yes, some things i did, other things i did not. i was never told i could not do something because i was a girl. my son never heard those words from me either. we do the best we can given our circumstances and life experiences. so....when it comes to a subject that affects me directly, if i do not stand up for me, no one else will. abortion will remain legal no matter how many times someone tries to over turn it. the atheists don't like what it says on our currency, has that been changed? no and it won't be. abortion is a personal matter just like religion....always up to the individual what faith they choose to believe and always up to the woman whether she wants to carry to term or not. interesting opinions here. i get on my soapbox too much! lol!!!!! :-) |
 | The best thing for a kid isn't always to have the mother (or father) stay home and take care of them. That, too, is the parent's choice to make. The important thing is to provide children with a place of security, safety and love, where they live with adults who respect the child, and respect themselves, however they choose to live their lives. I'm with Beth...don't judge someone until you have walked a mile in her moccasins. I have been a stay-at-home mother, and I have worked. Neither is for everyone. |
 | Brian where did you grow up? How long in Italy? Where do you live now? |
 | women have a choice when they find out they are pregnant. the how and why is none of our business. if parents will strive to educate their children about what makes babies, that is a step in the right direction. every state has its own laws about abortion. bottom line is abortion is legal due to roe vs. wade. education is tantamount to making the right decisions and choices in life. knowledge is always power. whether the woman is indigent or not, the choice is hers and hers alone. walk in my shoes before you become the judge and jury. how the procedure is funded also varies from state to state. we pay taxes to the usa and sometimes a state income tax. we have no say so how our tax $$$ are spent. we leave that ip to our elected senators and representatives. so....when it's election time, find out their stance on abortion and vote accordingly. any woman, rich or poor, should have the choice to either carry to term or not, if she chooses to terminate the pregnancy, regardless of why, there should be options available to her with regards to payment of said service. To Brian---why are we here? that is your job to find out why you are here...find your purpose and passion in life and that question will be answered for you. :-) |
Original Post | The article asked me to be the first of my friends to like this, I WILL NOT, and hope all my friends will support the woman's choice. OMG What is next? |
